Stithians Academicals

2021 SEASON FIXTURES & RESULTS

WEDNESDAY 6 OCTOBER

Kennall Vale 2-2 Stithians

Having not kicked a ball for almost two years, the football league returned for Stithians
Academicals this past Wednesday. Things didn't start off well for the Reds, after finding
themselves 2-0 to Kennall Vale and having hit the post twice. The second half saw a huge improvement, and great work form captain Rorey H helped Stan W score twice for a 2-2 draw.

Mylor Bridge 2-1 Stithians

As with the first game, the Academicals again started badly, conceding after just 15 seconds but,
once more, turned things around and equalised late on when Stan W scored his third of the evening. Unfortunately, just when Stithians thought they had secured a point, Mylor won it with what
was to be the final kick of the game. A fair result.

WEDNESDAY 13 OCTOBER

Mawnan 3-2 Stithians

Stithians played twice on Wednesday evening and, as usual, got off to a poor start, trailing 1-0 to Mawnan after just a couple of minutes. Stan W pulled one back for the Academicals before Mawnan scored a second from the penalty spot before half time. Early in the second half, Mawnan scored
an early third, but Stan W scored his second of the game to pull another back for the Reds.
The Academicals spurned late chances to fall to 3-2 defeat.

Perran-ar-worthal 1-2 Stithians

In the second game, Stithians took on Perran-ar-worthal, and some brilliant link-up play from Stan and
Sam S saw the latter giving the Reds the lead. In the second half, Stan W doubled Stithians' lead,
before Perran-ar-worthal pulled one back with just minutes to play. Late on, Perran-ar-worthal had
a great chance to snatch a late draw, but Leo V pulled off a great save to secure a 2-1 win!

WEDNESDAY 20 OCTOBER

Flushing 0-7 Stithians

In wet and miserable conditions, the Academicals took to the pitch and soon found themselves with a comfortable lead. A hattrick from Stan W and a brace apiece from Sam S and Rorey H secured a 7-0 win in what was a very dominant performance.

Mabe 2-10 Stithians

Despite conditions improving, it continued to rain goals when The Reds took on Mabe, again finding themselves leading comfortably early on, thanks to goals from Stan W and a superb header from captain Rorey H. With the win secured, Stithians tinkered with their formation and managed to get nearly every player on the scoresheet, with goals from Jack H, Sam S, William S and a brace from Busby S-L. Despite a penalty scored by Mabe and adding a second late on, the Reds never looked in any trouble and secured another comfortable win.

WEDNESDAY 3 NOVEMBER

Constantine 1-2 Stithians

The Academicals put on their very best performance on Wednesday evening when they played a very good Constantine team at Penryn College. In usual fashion, The Reds went 1-0 down early on, when Constantine found the bottom corner from long range. However, The Reds were soon level when a ball across the goal face fell to George S who hammered home. In a cagey second half, Constantine threatened with numerous long range efforts, but it was to be Stithians' day when a late chance fell to Stan W who made no mistake in tucking it away.

WEDNESDAY 10 NOVEMBER

Penryn 4-0 Stithians

After last week's heroics, the team did not manage to end their league campaign with an equally outstanding performance. In a match against a Penryn side with an exact same record, the Academicals started well, matching their opponents in midfield. However, when Penryn took the lead from a fortuitous lob, the Reds never looked like they were to get back into the game, especially when Penryn scored a second soon after. In the second half, George S hit the post in what was Stithians' only real chance, ending the game with a 4-0 defeat.
